ARA Project: Google terminates its modular phone

Un exemple du téléphone modulaire ARA - capture d'écran YouTube

While Google announced a release of its modular phone to the end of 2017, the ARA project, which was originally planned for 2015 will ultimately never happen.

Last May, Google had an optimistic speech to his ARA project by setting its output for 2017. Unfortunately, it seems that the Mountain View company has recently decided to abandon its modular phone project. A project that had yet excited the world of technology and potential buyers first.

ARA Project: Modular Google phone is stillborn

The dream of modular Google phone just ended, the Internet giant has in fact terminated the development of its ARA project. According to two sources cited by Reuters, who wished to remain anonymous alphabet parent Google, wanted to stop the project.

This project was conducted originally by Motorola division when it still belonged to Google. Following the reorganization of the group, which came under the tutelage of Alphabet, the project would be swept under the carpet in the short term profitability fault. Yet last May things seemed to have accelerated, the Mountain View company has announced a partnership with various manufacturers. However, the program had taken a different turn and the idea of modular all had somewhat cleared. Indeed, the processor, RAM or the screen modules, among others, have been fixed.

A project not yet buried?

If there is a priori clear that Google will not shift its engineering teams to ARA, the US giant could, however, entrust its development partners, in the form of a licensing system. That was the original idea when the device was designed by Google, other manufacturers such as HTC, Sony or Samsung could offer their modules that would be interchanged as desired telephone users. The ARA Project could therefore perhaps be reborn one day, all hopes are permitted.
