Apple will open its first R&D center in China

Apple
China is one of the biggest markets for Apple that the iPhone sales in the country are significantly down. To strengthen its presence, Tim Cook announced the construction of a research and development center.

Apple faces difficulties in China, a country that represents yet with the United States the largest markets for the Apple brand. Tim Cook has therefore visited the country to announce the establishment of a center of Research & Development Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli.

Tim Cook wants to strengthen Apple's presence in China

While he was already there two months Tim Cook has again flown to China to unveil new projects it wishes to develop in the country to strengthen the presence of his company, Apple. It is true that the Apple brand is not very well regarded in China and iPhone sales suffered a sharp decline. It is in a charm offensive that launches the CEO to boost the image of his company.

While in China, Mr Cook met with important personalities of the country including the Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli which he announced his intention to create a Research and Development center. He even assured that the center would be operational before the end of the year according to Chinese state media. The boss of the Cupertino company did not disclose, however, the amount that the company will invest in the R & D center.

The market shares of the US company have fallen sharply in China so that Apple now finds itself in fifth position in a market dominated by local brands. In the second quarter the market shares of the Cupertino were only 8.6% behind Huawei with 19.1% market share, Oppo (18%), Vivo (14.7%) and Xiaomi (10.5%).

In addition, in late June, at the end of its third fiscal quarter, Apple announced a decline in its sales in China by 33% compared to the same period a year ago, to $ 8.8 billion.
